20 Minutes a Month: The Smallest Habit That Moves Engagement the Most

Engagement rarely needs another grand program. It needs a leader who makes a short, structured conversation normal.

Consistency is the message

A regular one-on-one says, “Your work and growth are worth time on the calendar.” It is a small signal, but people notice when it disappears and they notice when it stays.

The habit does not need to be elaborate. It needs to be real enough to survive a busy month.

Make the conversation useful

Use the first few minutes to hear what is going well and what is getting in the way. Use the middle to talk about progress on the work that matters. Close with one clear next step that both of you can name.

You are not performing a review. You are making space for coaching before a problem grows teeth.

Start with the rhythm

Do not wait for perfect questions or software. Schedule the first 20 minutes and protect it. Good systems are often less about the complexity of the tool and more about the consistency of the practice.

The next useful step

Small systems, repeated well.
